Description
PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question. OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In order to meet that goal, we will ALWAYS work with our customers on any concerns that may arise. Because of that dedication, there should be no need to open a resolution dispute before working with us. Please keep in mind, we would prefer to continue to provide you the opportunity to acquire the rare music we present each and every week. Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office. Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has become very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable.
Ebay LP "rarities" dealer since 1998

................................................................ On this 1967 Impulse release, the legendary Archie Shepp unleashes a mind-boggling 18-minute tour de force "The Magic of Ju-Ju," combining free jazz tenor with steady frenetic African drumming.
Shepp's emotional and fiery tenor takes off immediately, gradually morphing with the five percussionists -- Beaver Harris, Norman Connor, Ed Blackwell, Frank Charles, and Dennis Charles -- who perform on instruments including rhythm logs and talking drums. Shepp never loses the initial energy, moving forward like a man possessed ...as the drumming simultaneously builds into a fury.
This is one of Shepp's most chaotic yet rhythmically hypnotic Lp's - EVER! The remaining tracks, somewhat overshadowed by the crazed title piece, are quick flourishes of free bop on "Shazam," "Sorry Bout That," and "You're What This Day Is All About." the entire LP is striking from the moments it's turned loose!
On this 1967 Impulse release, Archie Shepp unleashes his 18-minute tour de force "The Magic of Ju-Ju," combining jazz-jamming & steady frenetic African drumming.
Shepp's emotional and fiery tenor takes off immediately, gradually morphing with the five percussionists who perform on instruments including rhythm logs and talking drums. Shepp never loses the initial energy, moving forward like a man possessed as the drumming simultaneously builds into a fury. Upon the final three minutes, the blowing winds by Martin Banks and Michael Zwerin (if they shall do) make an abrupt brief appearance, apparently to ground the piece to a halt.
Without a doubt - this is one of Shepp's most chaotic yet rhythmically hypnotic pieces. The three remaining tracks, overshadowed are quick flourishes in the " free bop " on "Shazam," "Sorry Bout That," and the slower, waltz-paced "You're What This Day Is All About." ........................................................................
- side A "The Magic of Ju-Ju" - 18:37
