I bought this along with a music buffs record collection recently!
Hard to find in this condition....Circa 1930s JUNOPHONE wind-up GRAMOPHONE....fully tested and works perfectly...just been playing Hank Williams and Petula Clark 78s which sound superb....great looking wooden box unit with small front opening doors (volume control !!) to reveal the "speakers" !!
Never been anywhere near a loft or garage so no grubbiness,dust,mustiness,damp spots,rust etc. Also comes with a selection of 'use only once' needles in Columbia and Songster tins....the sound you get from 78s is truly amazing (even when the discs appear well played, there is very little lessening in sound quality and very little background noise and in my wife's words....produces a clear "rich" sound !!! ). The wooden design also allows this to sit in any room without looking out of place.
CONDITION
The gramophone (which measures 50cm L x 43cm W x 32cm H ) is in GREAT condition !!! The wooden box has a couple of light dings, and the varnish has faded in places.....depending on taste, the whole unit however could be sanded down and revarnished and would look as good as new....to me, look's fine as it is though ! The case top opens perfectly and the stand bracket allows it to remain open, the hinges are also perfect. The front "speaker" doors open and close perfectly and the handles are perfect. The wind-up mechanism works perfectly and the steel winder with bakelite handle is in excellent order. The heavy stylus mechanism is in perfect working order and changing the needles couldn't be easier. The stop/start switch mechanism works perfectly. The speed control mechanism (SLOW-80-FAST) also works perfectly. The platter itself still has it's original soft velvet cover (in very good condition), and it turns perfectly wthout any rumble or vibration....plays 78s perfectly. This unit really is in excellent working order ! FIND A BETTER ONE !!! The gramophone grades EXCELLENT working order and VERY GOOD cosmetically.
