Description
Disguised as Jackson & his Southern Stompers, Charlie Johnson and his Orchestra play "Dusky Stevedore" and "Take Your Tomorrow" on super-rare seven-inch Marathon 227. These are scorching performances with terrific solos.
Leonard Davis, Sidney DeParis (tp); Jimmy Harrison (tb); Ben Whitted, Edgar Sampson (cl, as); Benny Waters (cl, ts); Charlie Johnson (p); Bobby Johnson (bj); Cyrus St. Clair (tu); George Stafford (d). Recorded in New York in September 1928.
This record is in V condition generally. Each side has a few visible long scratches that tick unobtrusively from time to time, but the music is loud, spirited and thrilling, and you'll enjoy it.
78 Quarterly estimates one or two copies (last picture). Plainly there are more than that, but not many. Popsike reports two ebay transactions.
I'm a longtime collector who is downsizing. I know how to pack records.
