Miller, it seems, was destined to be a performer. He was born in Manchester in 1955 but grew up with his maternal grandparents in the Rousseau Road area of Kingston. As a yout he hung out at producer Clement Dodd's Studio One studio, hoping to follow in the footsteps of Delroy Wilson and Errol Dunkley and become that studio's next child star.

Miller reportedly did three songs for Dodd. One, 1968's Love Is a Message, made some ripples on radio but got a lot of play from the fledgling Rockers sound system owned by the Swaby brothers.
