Description
org04/06 This is a vintage 6" x 4" hand signed antique postcard of The Odeon Cinema on Leicester Square circa 1937-1938 just following its gala and opening and installation of its giant 5 manual console Compton organ . This antique photo features the gala and resident organist James Bell remained at the cinema as its main organist for a further 10 years before his tragic heart attack causing him to collapse after a BBC performance he had just made at the organ and sadly died later that day in 1947. The picture captures James Bell at the launch playing the 5 manual epic Compton organ to the audiences - the signing has some age darkening on the reverse graded g/vg - the photo portrait has a little aging to allow graded vg+ . the signing reads "With Best Wishes - Sincerely - James Bell - Odeon Leicester Square London WC2"
