James Carr A Man Needs A Woman 1968 1st Pressing on Bell Records UK MBLL 113 MONO A/1 B/1 with 1 G Mothers on Side One and 1 R on Side Two!
This is a true Holy Grail to record collectors and it’s just about IMPOSSIBLE to come by an authentic British ultra rare mono first pressing of it, especially in this Archive condition.....It took me 17 years to find this copy of Jame’s CLASSIC A Man Needs A Woman.....If you collect soul music this record is a must have!
A copy in no where near the condition that this record is in sold at a record auction in England for 600 pounds, (approximately $766.00).
I could write for days about James Carr, he defined soul and Rhythm and Blues and was so sadly overlooked due to bad management lack of record company promotion and personal issues.....Ironically James is a soul legend now and you can hear why on this CLASSIC record of his featuring “A Man Needs A Woman” “The Dark End Of The Street” “Let It Happen” “You’ve Got My Mind Messed Up” “Stronger Than Love” “You Hurt So Good” “I’m A Fool For You” “You Didn’t Know But You Had Me” and so much more.
While soul music had its share of Kings and Godfathers, James was handed the title of the “World’s Greatest Soul Singer”. Famed songwriter Dan Penn said it best “He’s one of the world’s best soul singers. I think it’s the depth of his voice, he had a deeper voice than most of ‘em, kind of a ringing in his voice, this identifying deep baritone. When he was right, he was right”.
Comes from the collection of a collector who kept his records in immaculate condition.
The record is easily graded Excellent+ most would grade it Near Mint....It’s in remarkable condition.
I would grade this insanely rare mono pressing Archive/ Copy without hesitation.
The Garrod & Lofthouse laminated front panel is Excellent+ or better condition the rear matte flip back panel would grade Excellent+ if it weren’t for the small name written on the top left (see scans).
Comes with the original inner sleeve which has been cello taped on all three sides and has writing on the top (see scan).
As with all records there may be a stray tick, click, pop or surface noise during the run ins and run outs and a touch of crackle or low level static here and there which is totally normal with vinyl. If there was anything out of the ordinary like too much of any the above I would not list the record, as I am first and foremost a record collector just like you...This paragraph is just to explain what you might encounter when buying vinyl records and is no reflection on this particular record.
Shipped via Priority Mail in a custom made record shipper that I’ve been using now to insure the safety of the record while in transit and sent signed for to prevent any weather issues (heat/rain) from occurring and damaging this beauty.
