With no-doubts the most brilliant work by the Montenegrin-French multi-instrumentalist and Library composer Janko Nilovic. Original 1st press issued on the highly collectible Montparnasse 2000 imprint, with back cover variation and black labels. No release date on record. Despite the title and cover shot, the Soul component here is rather minimal, in fact a fabulously greasy Psychedelic and Funk exploitation that Nilovic's become revered for are in full bloom here.
On "Soul Impressions" we have an incredible kaleidoscope of influences which diffract musical perspectives: here Pop dives into torrents of Fuzz, Funk takes on a Psychedelic air, Jazz flirts with Rock, and Easy Listening contorts strangely into the Baroque. Between a joyful Blaxpoitation aesthetic (flute, wah-wahs and roaring bass), great surges of almost Progressive Acid (killer riffs and spiralling solos) and surprising Breaks in tone and rhythm. Time has made this a true Eurogroove classic, maintaining its high value on the collectors’ market and remaining one of the most sought out records in Janko Nilovic’s however extensive discography.
Another holy grail from the great Janko Nilovic regarded as his ultimate masterpiece. 'Soul Impressions' has everything you love with a really Funky Blaxploitation style with lush Pop arrangements, most of the tracks on album are just brilliant and totally insane. Side A starts with the aggressive "HIPPOCAMPUS", monster Breaks and threatening Psychedelic Acid Fuzz notes accompained by solid horn session. "CRAZY ENTERPRISE" has huge flute session, horns and totally KILLER Psychedelic Funk groove, with organ and Funky Wah Wah guitars; impressive Breaks drumming. "SOUL IMPRESSIONS" is monster dancefloor Soul-Breaks-Funk with Lounge takes, dope drums and percussions, easily one of the top Eurogrooves made. "DRUG SONG" Breaks & Funk with prominent Wah Wah guitar and Flutes chorus, roaring bassline, and obsessive Funk rhythm. On side B some excellent Easy Listening and Soul-Breaks with the remarkable "BLACK SWAN LAKE" great cinematic Soul-vein theme: bass and drums basis and Fuzz guitar solos with a heavy horns session. "MAN OF GENIUS" another Acid Progressive jam with horns and percussions. WHAT A RECORD dudes!
