Description
Here's a much sought-after LP box set featuring Janos Starker playing all of Bach's suites for unaccompanied cello. This is the original Mercury Stereo pressing (SR3-9016). The original insert is included in Very Good condition with some library markings. Stampers on the records are: RFR-3/RFR-1/RFR-2/RFR-2/M2/M3.
This is a former library copy, but it plays through pretty nicely.
Condition - The box has been taped at all edges and it has a sticker on front as well as stickers inside. The box grades at VG. The records appear to have been played to different degrees. The records have some shine, with all sides showing at least light marks from use. Each label has a sticker or a stamp or both. Most sides grade at VG to VG+ by sight. For the most part, the records played as nicely or better than they looked. All the sides played through with some varying levels of background noise. Here are some more details:
Side 1 - Vinyl is VG by sight, with the very first track looking and playing rougher than the others due to a heavier mark. The first track sounds VG-, but the other tracks play OK with low to moderate noise. Except for first track, this side plays VG or better.
Side 2- Vinyl is VG by sight. Moderate background noise at beginning diminishes a bit as side progresses to light background noise. Plays at VG or better.
Side 3 - The second record has a light warp that does not seem to impact sound on my system. This side looks VG by sight. Plays with persistent light background noise, but nothing too distracting. Plays at VG or better.
Side 4 - The second record has a light warp that does not seem to impact sound on my system. This side looks VG by sight. Plays with persistent light background noise, but nothing too distracting. Plays at VG or better.
Side 5 - Looks better than other sides. Has marks, but they are lighter. Grades at VG+ by sight. Plays VG+ or better with light periodic bacground noise.
Side 6 - Looks better than other sides. Has marks, but they are lighter. Grades at VG+ by sight. Plays VG+ or better with light periodic bacground noise, except track four, which has a deeper mark and ticks for a little longer than one minute. Some other tracks on this side sound closer to Near Mint Minus.
Overall, I found this to be a decent listening experience. The records clearly have some issues, and there was noise at varying levels throughout, but for the most part, that noise did not overpower the music.
Regarding shipping - I ship quickly using new professional grade materials.
Regarding grading - I try to grade by Goldmine standards. I do not use the grade Mint on unsealed opened records. The highest grade I give to unsealed records is Near Mint. Grading here is strictly by sight.
