Paul, Les / Ford, Mary: The Hit Makers Guitar wizard and extraorinaire inventor Lester William Polsfuss – better known as Les Paul – will forever be linked to the story of the solid body electric guitar. So many guitarists owe his favourite axe, the one that bears his name, to his inventions in the 1940s and his work with guitar manufacturer Gibson in the 1950s. But that is not Les Paul’s only invention. He also pioneered sound recording techniques, experi-menting with multi track recordings by using several tape recorders. The first to benefit from his experiments was Les himself. An accomplished musician, he recorded many hit records starting as early as 1945. Some of his most interesting and remembered works were done in collaboration with his wife, Mary Ford – born Iris Colleen Summers. A great singer and also a guitar player herself, she worked with Les Paul in the 1950s and 1960s, recording some amazing tunes like the ones contained in this, their debut album from 1955 which includes tracks as great as “How High The Moon”, “Vaya con Dios”, “Tiger Rag” or “The World Is Waiting For The Sunshine”.

Brubeck, Dave Quartet: Time OutTakes ime Out Takes bietet 7 Tracks, die noch nie zuvor auf CD erhältlich waren. Diese neu entdeckten Aufnahmen bieten wundervolle Darbietungen, die genauso überzeugend sind wie die des ursprünglichen Time Out. Wir entdeckten, dass das Quartett während der ursprünglichen Sessions von 1959 auch "I'm In a Dancing Mood" und einen nicht gelisteten Trio-Jam mit einem großen Schlagzeug-Solo aufnahm, das Melodien aus "Watusi Drums" enthielt. Zwei Tracks von Time Out, "Pick Up Sticks" und "Everybody's Jumpin", wurden in einem Take erzielt, sodass es hier keine Alternativen gibt.
