Description

This is the original mono 1st pressing of Jefferson Airplane - Surrealistic Pillow. What makes this copy more unique then your average original Surrealistic Pillow mono lp is the fact that in the deadwax the matrix numbers reveal that it is a 1S pressing. TPRM-4892-1S is etched as the matrix number. This means it was pressed on the very FIRST stamper! This copy would have likely been the equivalent of a promo copy, as it was pressed in the very first run.
To clarify, most copies of this lp have 3S or 4S in the deadwax, meaning they were in the third and fourth run of pressings respectively. Discogs has the 3S ,4S, and 5S for the U.S. original mono copy, the 1S is exceedingly rare, and in my research (using , popsike, ebay completed listings, and blog posts) has only shown up a handful of times.
So the real question becomes why buy the 1S copy instead of a 3S or such? Well my answer would be that people care about which pressing it is, a 1S is extremely scarce in comparison to a later run, and you would be able to genuinely own the very 1st pressing of this amazing classic psych rock lp!
Copies of original U.S. mono pressings of Surrealistic Pillow have gone for $300-500, and those weren't even 1S! It would be impossible to find an earlier pressing short of a factory acetate, this is your chance to own the rarest possible copy of this pressing!
Now to the music side, the mono pressing is superior in sound, the mix is phenomenal, truly the way this album was meant to be heard! You likely already know how much of a classic this album is, this is one of the best rock albums of all-time, I mean White Rabbit, c'mon that is one of the anthems of the psychedelic scene! Personally the haunting vibe of Today is one of my favorites, but the whole album is genius pressed on wax!
Vinyl Condition: NM- (The best copy I've ever seen, the only reason I attach the - is because there is a very light amount of dust, almost imperceptible, it is glossy to the max, plays incredibly!)
Cover Condition: EX (light wear on the corners, no ringwear! Excellent shape, you won't be disappointed)
Label: RCA Victor
Catalog #: LPM-3766
Year: 1967
Matrix #: TPRM-4892-1S
Attributes: MONO, Original 1st press, FIRST stamper, U.S.

I've been a record collector myself for about 7 years, I have over 2,000 records, I understand what is expected of a seller, I grade using visual and actually playing the record to maximize accuracy, I always strive to grade to the best and most accurate way, My Grading Scale is: SS (still sealed), M (mint, no mint minus, for me this grade will only ever apply to something I personally unsealed, and had zero defects) NM (+ or -), EX, VG+, VG, VG-, G (I don't sell G records, it would have to be something incredibly valuable/rare). I list psych, jazz, funk, soul, freaks, folkways, international, electronic, private press, xian, latin, classical, RARES, and more! Add me as a saved search for seller as I list every week :)
THIS WEEK I HAVE NUMEROUS RARE CLASSIC ROCK, PSYCH, GARAGE, WHITE LABEL PROMOS, IN LP AND 45!!!!!
