Description
Here’s a set of two demo acetates containing crudely recorded demos of songs that Jerry Capehart released with the Cochran Brothers duo of Eddie and Hank. I acquired these along with a number of other hillbilly and rockabilly acetates, which I was told were originally from a studio in Bell Gardens, CA--the tiny LA County town where Eddie attended high school after moving with his family from Minnesota. Bell Gardens is also where Eddie met Jerry Capehart and Hank Cochran (no relation) around age 17, and recorded several demos at the Bell Gardens Music Center and the homes of Chuck Foreman and Pat Cochran. These recordings are not among the demos that have been documented from any of those venues. While I don’t know the extent of Eddie’s participation, I assume that’s him on “Rollin’,” which has a slightly different arrangement but the same guitar parts as the version that was released on Cash 1021. “Rockin’ and Flyin’” on the other hand, is radically different from the faster home demo that appears on the compilation Rockin’ It Country Style. That could be Eddie on the acoustic with the little solo bit toward the middle. Both discs play at 78 rpm and are in VG condition. One is an eight-inch disc, the other ten-inch. They do have some noise, but the music comes through clearly. The audio linked below comes directly from these discs:
