Original 1958 U.S. Sun Records 45 RPM record WITH GREEN AUTOGRAPH STAMP containing the classic rockabilly tracks titled 'Breathless'/'Down The Line' from rockabilly legend Jerry Lee Lewis. It is Sun Records U.S. catalog number 288. Also included are (2) Old Beechnut gum wrappers that you could turn in to get the mail order record with Jerry's stamped signatureThis 45 is a GUARANTEED 1958 ORIGINAL, NOT A 'REPRO' AND NOT A LATER COLLECTOR'S PRESSING. Here is the story behind this record - Sales of the 'Breathless' 45 were slow, so Judd Phillips, the director of promotions for Sun Records, cut a deal with Dick Clark of American Bandstand, which was sponsored by Beechnut chewing gum - If an American Bandstand viewer sent in Beechnut gum wrappers, they would receive an 'autographed' copy of 'Breathless' in the mail direct from Sun Records in Memphis. The 'autographed' copies were actually stamped with a green ink rubber stamp of Jerry Lee Lewis' actual autograph - One of the records sent out in connection with that promotion is on offer here. These 'autographed' copies of 'Breathless' are actually very rare items and are great historic conversation pieces because you could only get them by mail order and they were not sold in record stores - Condition of record is VG with a moderate amount of surface marks which cannot be felt and which will not affect play, and a few surface scratches on the B-side of the record which can be felt and which will cause some ticks, no skips.
