Description
Jimi Hendrix – Are You Experienced (1967 U.S. Mono First Pressing, Reprise R-6261, Columbia Pitman, VG+) + Original Inner Sleeve
Up for sale is an authentic first U.S. mono pressing of Are You Experienced by The Jimi Hendrix Experience, issued on Reprise R-6261 in August 1967. This is the original tri-color steamboat Reprise label, not a later tan label reissue.
Deadwax / Matrix (Side A): 10682 R-6261-A 1E 1 with tiny stamped “p” (Columbia Records Pressing Plant, Pitman, NJ)
Deadwax / Matrix (Side B): 10683 R-6261-B 1E 1 with matching Pitman stamp
➡ This confirms it as a true first pressing, mono, Columbia Pitman copy.
Condition (graded conservatively, Goldmine standard):
- Vinyl: VG+ – retains strong gloss, with a few light scuffs visible under bright light. Plays clean with only occasional light surface noise, no skips, no deep marks.
- Cover: VG+ – original U.S. jacket with vibrant color, light ring/shelf wear, spine readable, seams intact. No splits or writing.
- Mono copies are much scarce than stereo (RS 6261). By mid-1967, U.S. buyers were overwhelmingly purchasing stereo, so original mono runs were pressed in far smaller numbers.
- The Columbia Pitman “p” stamp identifies this copy as an East Coast pressing from the original production run.
- Hendrix’s debut album in its true mono mix is widely considered the definitive listening experience, with punchier guitars and a very different balance from the more common stereo edition.
- Sleeve: VG – original Reprise advertising sleeve included, some age discoloration but intact.
