“Diamonds & Rust" • A Joan Baez Gold Record Award

More than 40 years ago I received this plaque celebrating the success of the Joan Baez album “Diamonds & Rust”. I received this while working for A&M Records in Chicago. Although not an RIAA Gold or Platinum Record Award, the plaque and the sentiment are appropriate as a commemoration of the sales and media success of the album, including the title track which became a Top-40 hit single. I heard many of Joan Baez's Vanguard-label recordings as a teen and a college student. Having worked for A&M Records since 1972, I was surprised that A&M signed Baez (in 1974). And then she (and producer David Kershenbaum) delivered a brilliant album, both musically and lyrically, and of course great overall production. One of my favorite memories is having dinner with Joan when she visited Chicago to promote “Diamonds & Rust”.

This award honors Joan’s million-selling album “Diamonds & Rust", which I’ve hung in my office for the past 40+ years. With our recent move, I no longer have the space and decided it’s time to offer this on eBay. 

The engraved plate states,

The plaque honoring this album measures approximately 16” tall x 16” wide x 1.5” deep. The wooden frame is all black (with a few nicks), and the background behind the gold disc is also black. This plaque is a perfect addition to the wall of a home studio, entertainment room, office or study. NOTE: There is dust on the inside of the glass. Not surprising after hanging on a wall in homes in Illinois, California, Connecticut, Minnesota and back to California. I’ve elected to NOT open the disc and instead will let the new owner decide if they wish to perform some ‘maintenance’.
