John Barry ORIG OZ Soundtrack LP Knack and how to get it NM 1965 Psyche Pop Mod

John Barry

The knack and how to get it

Original OZ Soundtrack LP released in 1965 on the Deep Groove United artist Records label. Cat: UALS8096.

Over the next several months we have the pleasure of listing a spectacular vinyl collection of over 6000 LP's. This collection consisting of mostly Jazz but also Blues, Folk ,Rock, Soundtracks and Classical was kept in amazing condition. Most of the records were played once, transferred to tape for listening and then stored away in cliplock sealed bags in specially made cupboards. The overall condition of this collection is sublime to say the least and whatever items I list as Near Mint you can be assured that it was probaly only ever played once!! Over the last few weeks you may have noticed some of the lovely jazz & rock titles I have listed, these are just the tip of the iceberg here. I hope you enjoy seeing these listings as much as I have in offering them.

A superbly atmospheric John Barry score effectively conveyed the mood of swinging London for this 1965 film by Richard Lester. Usually playing around with variations of the haunting main theme, Barry used vivacious horns, melancholic strings, and above all a groovy jazz organ (played by Alan Haven). A couple of the tracks don't work well in isolation: the vaudevillian "Something's Up!," and the vocal version of the main theme (not used in the film) by mediocre singer Johnny De Little. But overall, it's got a consistently captivating groove, rating as one of Barry's best scores.

Tracks: The knack (main theme)/ Here comes Nancy now!/ Photo strip/ Three on a bed/ Blues and out/ The knack ((Vocal)/ And how to get it/ Something's up!/ Doors & bikes and things/ Ecstasy!/ End title - The knack.

There are no signs of spindle marks on labels. Record has been played once and is in Near Mint condition. Gloss cover with back flaps is stunning and in Near Mint condition.
