Description
Both label have 203 South Washington Ave., Bergenfield, N.J. address; the same address at the bottom of the back cover. Mono. Stamped "Preview Copy" at the bottom of the back cover. The record has "VAN GELDER" stamped in the dead wax. The yellow label has a number written on both labels. 6 tracks with leader, John Coltrane, tenor sax; Cecil Payne, Pepper Adams, baritones saxes; Mal Waldron, piano; Doug Watkins, bass; Art Taylor, drums.
Cover: Fair Filament tape has been applied to the 3 edges, however, it no longer secures the bottom edge and the spine. Both of which have split and all edges show some wear. There are some handwritten remarks next to all tunes in the tune schedule. A small section of scotch tape, less than 1", at the bottom of the front cover. Light to moderate aging on the front and back cover. The white spot near Coltrane's shoulder is from the camera flash.
Record: VG++ Visually shows no wear. Several very faint, short, brush-like surface rub marks on both sides. These are few and barely visible. Side A, Track 1, 1 very light click near the beginning of the Track, 2 very faint clicks near mid Track. 1 faint click at the beginning of the baritone sax solo. Track 2, 2 faint clicks about mid Track, barely audible, 3 or 4 light clicks during the piano solo. Track 3, 2 faint clicks followed by 1 faint click near mid Track. Side B, Track 1, slight groove noise on the first 2 or 3 revolutions, most barely audible. 2 light clicks follow, also, barely audible, and 3 extremely light clicks during Coltrane's solo. 3 additional clicks, slightly more audible at the end of the Track. Track 2, 1 faint click near the beginning of the Track. Several very light clicks at the beginning of the baritone sax solo near the end of the Track. Track 3, several light clicks during Coltrane's solo. 1 faint click at the end of the Track. I have tried to carefully detail the surface noise. All described noise is very faint and infrequent. Audibly checked.
