A truly excellent condition copy of this increasingly rare and sought after 1975 US jazz masterpiece repress, on the red, white and green ATLANTIC records label, STEREO, SD 1311

The dead wax matrix numbers are :

Side 1  Etched ST-A-59201-CC with "20280  LW  P  2" identifiers

Side 2  Etched ST-A-59202-DD with "AT/MP MR  20280-X 2  PR" identifiers

The overall appearance and condition of this nicely heavy vinyl is a strong excellent (EX). The LP is completely flat and in normal daylight comes across as in perfect condition, with a jet black sheen and beautiful luster. An absolute gleamer! Close scrutiny under a bright light reveals just a couple of the wispiest of wispy small hairlines on each side along with a few pencil thin and strictly surface only scuff lines - each superficial and very trivial. Remarkable condition, especially considering it's 44 year antiquity, and strongly suggesting that this record has been sparingly played.

The labels are near mint (NM). Each label is near perfect with no marks, all text pristine, and just a couple of small and extremely faint spindle trails adjacent to the centre hole (you will need to study closely under a bright light in order to identify them!); all text and the famous Atlantic logo remains perfectly intact, with all colours vibrant and clear and all black text fully intact.

The non-laminated outer thick cardboard sleeve is in excellent (EX) condition, if not better. All edges remain rigid with no scuffing (apart from just a few very light scuff marks on the bottom edge) or rubbing and all corners remain perfectly defined right angles with barely any rubbing at all. The iconic front side remains in original lovely, crisp, perfectly defined condition and with no discolouration - the colours remain remarkably vivid and vibrant. The original "paste-on" reverse side is in great condition also - no unwanted doodles and all text beautifully intact and clear.  There is no fraying of the opening edges and the spine also remains rigid with all text perfectly legible. Brilliant!

Finally, the quality of the audio is excellent plus (EX+). Terrific STEREO audio quality with wonderful tone and clarity throughout, even on higher frequencies and at higher volume. No nasty clicks or background interference, just crystal clear stereo audio reproduction. There is the occasional very light background click just noticeable during some of the quieter passages, caused either by static or the odd speck of dust in the grooves through decades of storage, but these do nothing to diminish the impressiveness of the overall sound quality and seem to be rectified by cleaning with a lukewarm damp cloth. Sit back and immerse yourself with these jazz legends each at the top of their game : John Coltrane - tenor sax, Tommy Flanagan - piano, Paul Chambers - bass, Art Taylor - drums. Superb and rightly regarded as a landmark contemporary jazz album.

Comes complete with plain white die-cut inner sleeve with no tears, splits or creasing and remaining in truly excellent plus and fully functional condition. 

In summary a brilliant copy of this increasingly rare and sought after US jazz classic repress, the remarkable condition of the vinyl and superb audio quality being real highlights - a worthy addition to any serious jazz vinyl collection and only continuing to gain in value.

On the subject of postage, I take great care in the packaging of all items, using a proper vinyl thick cardboard crucifix style mailer along with at least two cardboard stiffeners. I take great care in separating the record from the outer sleeve in order to help prevent sleeve damage in transit and I always insert the vinyl, outer sleeve and inner into a clear plastic sleeve, thus adding further protection.

Mint

The records itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items, such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

Excellent

The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and /or creasing.

Very Good

The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

Good

The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.

Fair

The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents are torn, stained and/or defaced

Poor

The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents are badly damaged or partly missing.

Bad

The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler
