ROOTS: John Lennon Sings the Great Rock and Roll Hits Guaranteed Original INNER SLEEVE ONLY
***********NO RECORD!!!!!!*************NO JACKET!!!!!**************
This is a vintage ROOTS: John Lennon Sings the Great Rock and Roll Hits album inner sleeve. The notorious album was issued by ADAM VIII Ltd. in a very sketchy fashion that blew up in the owner's face pretty quickly. You can readily read about that online. Basically:
Roots: John Lennon Sings the Great Rock & Roll Hits is a rare mail-order album issued by Adam VIII consisting of rough mixes of John Lennon's Rock 'n' Roll album. It was available through television sale for three days in January 1975 before Lennon and Apple/EMI pulled it off the market. Lennon then rush-released his "official" version in February 1975.
I sold my 100% guaranteed original copy a few years ago on here. I didn't recall putting this inner sleeve someplace after I bought poly-lined collector sleeves, but uncovered my BIG stash of original inner sleeves last week. I knew I saved a lot to preserve them better and to prevent age discoloration. The box was hidden by a Cheap Trick signed LP I propped against it to display it. That solved the mystery of my misplaced ELO inner sleeves and reminded me about a few others. I NEVER would have recalled putting that there if I hadn't had to move it to grab something!!!
INCREASE THE VALUE OF YOUR ALBUM IF YOU DON'T HAVE THE ORIGINAL INNER SLEEVE ALREADY!
I scanned the inner sleeve and also took photos outside using natural light and no flash. The scans in places make it look more perfect than it is. I took great pains to make the little flaws show up (like the little piece out in the middle of the bottom seam). That BARELY shows on the scan. I made sure to turn it different directions to finally get the sunlight to make it more obvious. AFTER I scanned and took photos I carefully (painstakingly and minimally) glued the split seams. As of not there is only a little gap in the area where that tiny piece is out. I did not want to glue IN the hole. I thought the photos showed the slight age better also.
I added some online examples and their are webpages about just this rare album. eBay no longer allows outside links or I would link to them. They are easy to find. There was another inner sleeve used also, but this particular one shows up in the majority of the FEW photo examples. I dare say it in in better shape, as no crumples or harsh folds when they jammed some in. Wish my cover had arrived as nice. I don't think I saved that catalog insert also included (more Adam VIII LP's) to order more products, as I have no memory of running across that on my many searches in my 'stuff.' And seeing it now online does not jog my memory.
CONDITION DETAILS: Seam splits on the left and right (each both over 2") and middle of the bottom (under 2") seam. I repaired them (see above) after taking the photos and scans. The side splits are closed and the bottom one has a very small gap due to the tiny piece out. There are three very short tears on the top lip that ALSO were minimally glued after the images. They look better, but are still visible. VERY minimal age (see slight discoloration at very edges).
Legitimate copies of this album rarely show up for sale (educate yourself if you plan to buy one). I quickly sent off for one back in 1975 and was disappointed at the shape the cover arrived in. No internet or email to quickly complain...wouldn't have done any good anyhow since they got shut down within days. It was a nice surprise to find the sleeve! I see nothing online to help with pricing the sleeve alone.
Using comic book grading I'd say at LEAST FINE+
Via GOLDMINE grading - VG+* cosmetically (*factoring in the seam splits that have now been repaired...still a flaw). Check my Feedback. I try to treat others as I want to be treated. Use your own judgement.

Domestic winner to pay $6.00 for First Class insured shipping. If you want Priority, give me your zip for a quote. Canada $18. No other international bidders please unless you contact me first! If you bid without contacting me you will get stuck using eBay's Global Shipping Program and that price. They do not let me send an invoice after that with MY international shipping price (which would be less). I pack VERY securely and rather obsessively!
Please email with questions BEFORE bidding! Payment due within 5 days of auction closing and winner MUST contact me within two days of winning. Payment by PayPal.
