Description

Starting to list some “rarer” Lennon vinyl for you Beatle People I’ve had the honor of selling to. Here’s an AUTHENTIC and 100% GUARANTEED ORIGINAL pressings of JOHN LENNON SINGS THE GREAT ROCK & ROLL HITS “ROOTS”. Below is listed all the checkpoints to verify this pressing as being the real deal. I’ve noticed more than a few pirate copies being listed on eBay over the years and have witnessed some of these good quality copies getting “real pressing” money, not cool. Don’t get me wrong these are nice space fillers but I’d rather have a VG original then a NM bootleg. Enough said.

The album has a great history and is an “official” piece of the Lennon catalogue unofficially. The one being offered here is in solid VG condition. This REAL cover shows some shelf wear along the spine but is still very readable as this is one of the listed authentication points. Yes there are a few surface rubs but nothing showing enough to take away from the covers display appeal. The original inner sleeve and included original sales flyer are in great shape as is the actual record. The Vinyl is a solid NM and so are the labels. Plays as it did first coming out of the sleeve with the labels showing no spindle marks at all. I’ve played it 2 times and I don’t believe its been played in years. We’re not talking “Abbey Road” here. Not something you’re gonna leave on the turntable for a week. Highly collectible Lennon album in a very small canon of studio albums, god rest his soul (sorry John).

Please consider a DEAD MINT copy would fetch a grand. This copy is very collectible and grades VG+/NM cover/vinyl so it’s not going to break the bank to fill that huge void in a run of Lennon studio records. I was considering a reserve on this auction at a fair value and hope I didn’t make a mistake by not doing it. Please do not ask me to end this auction early if it has bids. To please one and annoy many doesn’t work for me. Believe it or not it’s not all about the money (but close).

AUTHENTICATION POINTS: ******************************

(From a favorite site)

Many counterfeits exist. This is the genuine version of both the record and cover.

Presented on this album are Lennon's rough mixes of what became his "Rock & Roll" album. The release of this mail order album in January 1975 resulted in Lennon stepping up the process of releasing "Rock & Roll" a month later.

The following law suit was resolved in favor of Capitol Records and John Lennon. Production of this LP was halted and about 3000 copies survive.

There are the steps to see if your version is the original:

1) If any copy has the word GREATEST (instead of GREAT) printed on the spine-it's a fake.

2) Original covers are manufactured with white posterboard. If any copy has a paste on cover slicks-it's a fake...beware some counterfeits have copied the white posterboard construction.

3) On the cover,if you cannot see the pink flesh on John Lennon's shoulder-its a fake Many counterfeits use a slightly enlarged copy of the front cover which cuts out the shoulder.

4) If the letters in the word STEREO (in the bottom right corner of the cover) run together-its a fake. All originals have the word STEREO printed in separate letters.

5) On the back cover, the printing on the little album covers in the advertisment are legible, This is not to say they are perfectly clear because the print is really small. Every counterfeit that I have seen has the print absolutely unreadable.

6) If The record is unusually thick piece of vinyl-its a fake. Remember, original copies of this record were pressed in 1975, vinyl records were not pressed with the same heavy, thick vinyl as they were in the 1960's.

7) if the label on the record is unusually large compared to a standard 1970's pressing-its a fake. 8) If the trail off area of the record does not have a machine stamp BELL SOUND-its a fake. But beware some counterfeits do have BELL SOUND stamped in the dead wax.

*****see last photo above for #9)*****

9)There is one definitive thing that separates the originals from the fakes..All original copies have the matrix number of A 8018 pressed into Side 1 Label. No counterfeits have this feature.....This being said, this copy is an original and meets all the determining facts.....

Selling a big part of my personal collection accrued over 5 decades. Will be listing a few auctions a week. Many very rare BEATLES and related items among other artists. Please check in from time to time if you are a completist like me.

The small print: Unfortunately I’ve been getting winning bidders who have no intention of paying for their won items. I must request that payment be made within 48 hours of the auction ending or at least send a simple and brief note letting me know that your payment will be made when able. I’m very flexible in that regard and I just want to know I have a sincere winner. Thank you for your understanding.
