This sale is a unique opportunity to buy this set of original Eric Clapton & John Mayall memorabilia for the famous 1966 "Beano Album" and a 1st pressing copy of the album itself.  This is probably the 1st time these 4 items have been put together and offered for sale anywhere, a real gem for any collector.

John Mayall Blues Breakers with Eric Clapton Album

The album, from what I have seen around the net everything points to this album being one of the very first 1st mono pressings. The labels with the date offset "1966"s on the left ,the K/T tax code on the right and the unboxed Decca logos, as well as the "foldback" laminated sleeve from 1966 made by McNeill Press, London. Rightly or wrongly I understand that later pressings had the 1966 bottom centre, albeit with 1st pressing disc matrix. Could be worth the starting price on it's own!

The album has been owned by me for around 10 years. This has been played once during this time I have owned it and that was recently on a friend's equipment as I don't have a player, and it sounds really great, I shall be sorry to see this go.

I would rate this album as Very Good++, for the reason it has signs of being played, but it does not look like it has been abused and when played recently it sounded great. 

The visual inspection details are:

Catalogue number: Decca LK 4804, Released in July 1966, 1st pressing MONO 

Matrix:

ARL - 7297 - 1A at the bottom, on the left hand side is 1 and there is a faint KT at the top.

ARL - 7298 - 1A at the top, on the left there is either C, G or 0.

Disc:   Very Good++, a few light surface marks, no visible scratches, Weighs 145g 

Label: "Unboxed" Decca logo on the red label, "offset 1966," and K/T tax code. Very good condition with spindle marks, see pictures 

Cover: foldback" laminated sleeve, very good with signs of use and slight wear on the open edge as seen in the pictures.

I have based my assessment on the following criteria:  

Mint:   The record is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition.

Excellent:   The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

Very Good:   The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

Beano issue 1242

The Beano comic, issue 1242, 7th May 1966 is the same issue as on the album cover being read by Eric Clapton as he was reading Beano on the cover because he felt like being "uncooperative" during the photo shoot.

The comic I would rate as in an VG/Fine condition, all the pages are there, it has no tears, pencil or other similar marks, just some foxing as seen in the pictures. This alone would be worth over £100.

Marshall Amplification Sales Poster

In addition to these items is a Marshall Amplification sales poster for the "Bluesbreaker" Amp, the model used by Clapton during the recording of the album.

The image of the Marshall 2x12 50-watt combo amp, Model 1962 (circa 1967) S/N 10540 known as  the "Bluesbreaker" Amp, owed by a Mike Doyle and was photographed by the legendary Rock'n'Roll photographer Glen La Ferman.

The poster is in excellent condition and is approximately 45 cm x 60 cm.

Limited Edition Photographic Print, 19th of 150

For me the “icing on the cake” is a an outtake from the photo shoot for the album cover.

It is a an original Limited Edition photographic print, from the original transparency, taken by David Wedgbury, the staff photographer of Decca Records in the 1960s. Decca's David Wedgbury took the pictures of many ionic album covers, for example The Who, Small Faces, The Rolling Stones and of course the famous Beano Album.

The size of the photo is 8" x 8" on 10" x 12" on "Fujicolor Professional Paper", which is embossed with "The Not Fade Away Archive" stamp and numbered 19/150.

The print is mounted on black heavy card, ready for framing in a 30cm x 40cm frame.

This was bought from "Snap Galleries", who are now selling this size print for £195 unframed and £950 for a 18" x 18" a print of the actual cover photo. 

Also include in the sale is the original bill of sale from July 2005, when I bought it for its Provenance.  Since I bought it was framed and on display on my office wall.
