Description
JOHN LENNON & YOKO ONO'S - 'WEDDING ALBUM'
This superb, 100% complete UK manufactured box set elaborately designed by John Kosh was produced in very small quantities in 1969 and despite heavy newspaper and magazine advertising, did not sell well.
The set comprises the following genuine & original components:
A MINT/UNPLAYED LP on the dark green Apple label (SAPCOR 11) which is housed within a 'Garrod & Lofthouse' printed outer laminated, inner flipback gatefold cover.
Side 1 of the LP is entitled: "John & Yoko" and consists entirely of a recording of John & Yoko calling to each other, through a range of emotions, over the sound of their heartbeats.
Side 2 titled "Amsterdam" consists of interviews, conversations & captured sounds during the couple's famous "Bed-In" honeymoon after being married on 20 March 1969.
Matrix numbers: SAPCOR 11A-1 & SAPCOR 11B-1
Stamper numbers: 1/R & 1/M
Disc weight: 133g
'The Press' booklet showing John & Yoko press cuttings
'The Wedding' 2-sided photo poster
John & Yoko drawn 2-sided poster
Wedding cake picture
'Bagism' white vinyl bag
Photo-strip & Postcard & rarely seen protector paper
All of the above inserts are contained within a UK manufactured box
With wedding certificate pasted onto the underside of the lid.
N.B. Unlike the U.S. box, the UK version did not carry the catalogue number on its side.
CONDITION
This box is incredibly difficult to find in this condition and happily, this example has clearly been rarely handled, let alone opened in the past 41 years.
The lid displays some significant yellowing to its once white finish but is otherwise free of any significant damage or wear.
The marriage certificate on the underside of the lid is intact with just a few small smudges from manufacture.
Most importantly, the most delicate aspect of this set - the corners - are all unsplit and totally undamaged.
Lower Tray: NEAR MINT
The lower part of the box is too in superb shape and also has fully intact corners and pristine white edges.
The underside of the tray bears the original retailer's sticker on the rear - in this case 'MEERSHOEK' in the Hague, Netherlands.
Inserts: EXCELLENT/EXCELLENT +
There are some light 'thumbnail'/handling creases to the paper items, but no writing, splits or or any other major signs of wear.
Labels MINT
A perfect pair with just one or possible two faint mark to the side two centre hole which were most likely made during storage at the factory instead of from a turntable.
Visual: MINT
Both surfaces are pristine & totally unmarked both on close examination in strong daylight AND directly beneath my powerful halogen desk lamp.
Audio: MINT & UNPLAYED
LP Cover: NEAR MINT
An outstanding example which appears here in virtually the same condition it left the factory. The delicate front leaf and the rear panel are totally unmarked and the laminate is fully intact all-round.The only trace of wear is a small rub to the lower right corner of the rear panel and a single light spine bend. The inside of the gatefold is immaculate with no tears or wear to the delicate upper and lower parts of the central hinge.
Inner-sleeve: EXCELLENT
Crisp & white and apart from a few faint storage wrinkles and the inevitable light disc impression, is undamaged and unworn
