Up for auction is the Original Version First-Pressing of the Classic "Pledging My Love" by Johnny Ace.
This is a copy of the original version of the classic "Pledging My Love" by Johnny Ace from 1955 (Duke-136). One of the greatest blues ballads of all-time, it is now quite rare and collectible. A short time after its release, the record company executives decided the song would be more acceptable with background singers and orchestration, so the added vocals and instrumentation was subsequently issued and the original version discontinued. This copy is the original rarity without the background "enhancements." The flip side is a great up-tempo blues number.
Sadly, Johnny Ace had a very short career as he shot himself playing Russian Roulette backstage at the City Auditorium in Houston, Texas, on December 24, 1954.
The near mint book value of this rarity is $125. This copy visually grades at VG-, but plays very good. If you can't afford $125 for a really rare near mint copy, this is a decent affordable alternative for your collection.
