BLUE NOTE MONO VINYL 1ST PRESSING!
Very seldom seen in UK auctions is this beautiful MONO FIRST PRESSING of Johnny Coles' hard bop classic, Little Johnny C (Blue Note BLP 4144). This is a one-time opportunity to get your hands on a really lovely original copy of this Blue Note original, complete with Plastylite ear! Even better, it's something of a 'stealth' Duke Pearson album, as he wrote most of the tunes and arrangements, so it's musically as well as audibly excellent! I have fully play-tested the vinyl, so my grading is based on how the record actually sounds, as well as how it looks.
Vinyl is strictly graded in Very Good++ condition, with very slight crackle on the run-in but a nice quiet soundstage throughout. Visually it is a superb example, with good shine on both sides. There are a small number of hairlines (depicted in photo), but these are cosmetic only and do not affect playback (I have downgraded the vinyl from Excellent on this basis). All characteristics of an original Mono pressing are present (VAN GELDER stamp, ear on both sides, DG on side 1, NY USA on labels etc.). Having played the album in full, it sounds punchy and loud throughout, being another Rudy Van Gelder special!
The laminated, dimpled cover is strictly graded in Excellent condition - the only flaws I can see are a small import stamp on the back and a couple of slight edge scuffs (in photos). However, it is structurally sound and generally in superb condition - and with one of the all-time great BN cover designs in beautiful condition.
Original 1963 inner sleeve also included.
Note that I separate the vinyl from the outer sleeve for postage to prevent seam splits. I use thick cardboard stiffeners and take great care in my packaging to ensure as far as possible that these records reach their destination in exactly the same condition as when they leave me, and in the way I'd like to receive them.
