Description
This is the third single from Mod/Pop-Art/Psych. Gods (or Looners, depending on your point of view!) John's Children: "Desdemona"/"Remember Thomas A' Beckett" (Track 604003, 1967). The 'A' side is a Marc Bolan composition, with his distinctive backing vocals and guitar are featured throughout. The disc is in a fine EX (excellent) condition on both sides, and plays accordingly without fault. Just a few things stop it grading higher: Light, feathery marks mainly in the run-out grooves, and 3 or 4 longish, fine spindle marks on each side of the label centre (one extends further onto the main label on side A, there is also a small mark on the "1967"). But, I am being critical here. The disc shines like a new one, and would undoubtedly be graded by some as "Mint", but I like to be realistic and honest! There are no tears, writing, fading or signs of abuse to the labels at all. The record is supplied in a correct 'fluted-top' sleeve used by track ('greasy' mark, but no tears/writing or seam splits), so that you don't wear out.........
The Picture Sleeve! Not every copy by any means was equipped with one of these, and most U.K. singles of all sorts didn't have such a thing in 1967! Made from thin card, with a great b/w. picture of the group (with Marc in the foreground) and 'ecstatic' young lady, this one has survived very well: It has yellowed only slightly, with minor rubbing,creasing and slightly rounded corners. There is ring/storage marking (not wear) from the top of the disc on both sides, minor staining (noticeable pinkish one front left) and handling marks throughout. Sleeve corners 'stand proud' when put front-up on a flat surface, but this is from storage/construction, rather than damp. On the 'plus' side: The top opening and rear 'tabs' are straight and intact, there is no writing, tears or seam splits. The sleeve is perfectly capable of holding a record correctly. With all these factors taken into account, I would (strictly) grade the sleeve as VG - (very good minus).
Well, the above should leave you in no doubt, but do ask a question if you need to. Whether you're a Bolan fan interested in his early stuff, or just love the sounds that John's Children made, this would be a great addition to anyone's collection (especially with the rare sleeve intact).
