For auction at a low start price: Joy Division - Still, 1981 UK FACT 40, Double Album, Clothbound Gatefold Hessian Cover. The "hessian" hardback cover with white ribbon and grey labels was the initial release in an edition of 5000 copies.
One owner. I bought this new in 1981 and wrapped it in a custom acid-free plastic cover. I don't remember ever playing it prior to the recent play test for this sale. Extremely rare to find this with the original spine-wrapped ribbon that secures the gatefold inside outer sleeves (that house the inner sleeves.)
Discogs sellers asking $300 to $400 for similar quality copies, some without the white ribbon.
Vinyl is EX+; Clothbound Sleeve is EX+:
- All 4 sides show some light sleeve scuffs under strong light.
- Side 1, Track 1 plays with light noise in background, or is it just the quality of the recording? Hard to tell. Remainder of Side 1 plays clean with no noise. Side 2 has very little amount of light noise only at the lead-in dead wax, then plays clean with no noise for entire side. Side 3 has very little amount of light noise only at the lead-in dead wax, then plays clean with no noise for entire side. Side 4 has very little amount of light noise only at the lead-in dead wax, then plays clean with no noise for entire side.
- Labels: Side 1 label has a little bit of very faint dirt, hardly noticeable. Sides 2-4 labels are super clean.
- Clothbound Gatefold Sleeve is super clean on all sides, including original double inner sleeves. One very small ball point pen mark on inside gate showing song titles of sides 3 & 4, right edge. White ribbon shows light wear. See photos for further condition verification.

Discogs Info: Initial release in an edition of 5000 copies in clothbound "hessian" gatefold cover with a white ribbon. Double inner-sleeves are die-cut cardboard. The labels are grey on white. As no US edition was ever pressed at the time of first release, UK copies were imported to the USA via independent record companies.
