Description

GENERAL INFO:  First release from 1956.  Not just a soundtrack....This was directly recorded from the original                               movie score (all original actors) and actually "tells" the story.  Sort of like listening to it on the                               radio.  Words & music.  This is the "first 12" vinyl release" (see the yellow labels?) of the movie                               soundtrack.  Rare.

VINYL:  Some visible hairlines & paper scuffs.  Not too bad.  VG++ visual grade.  I've listened to this one a few               times.  There is some light background static, but nothing horrible (pops, skips, etc.)  The voices & sound               sound very clear.

COVER:  Pretty nice & very clean.  Frameable, for sure.  Does have a crease on the back (pic 8) & a seam split                 on the bottom edge (pic 9).  Normally, I repair splits like this with clear tape.  Thought I would leave that                 up to the buyer in this case.  Just ask, & I will make the repair.  Frame it & you will not see any of this!                 Below is some additional information regarding this album.  Judy is now one of my "store categories."
NOTES:  The songs were recorded in a studio before filming. Several of the recordings were completed while Buddy Ebsen was still with the cast. So while he had to be dropped from the cast due to illness from the aluminum powder makeup, his singing voice remains on the soundtrack. Although an orchestra underscores the entire film, approximately the last third of the movie contains no songs. The last three songs in the film, "The Jitterbug," the vocal reprise of "Over The Rainbow," and "The Triumphant Return" were all excised from the film before its official release.
Although the MGM movie version of "The Wizard of Oz" was released in 1939, the soundtrack album wasn't released until 1956, to coincide with its first showing on television. Because of the film's success on television, the original soundtrack album has never been out of print. However, over the years, it has been reissued many times, in many different editions, and due to the advent of the CD, expanded to include more film content.
