Description

Surface by appearance is Very Good plus to Excellent, very glossy with just a little very light wear. Plays through well with good volume and only light background noise which most of the time you will not notice. There is a little rise (assuming side one) to the surface for a few revolutions right at the start but tracks fine no problems. VERY hard to find even in the area where it was issued and not much seems to be known about it although it has appeared on an unauthorized collection of vintage Virginia funk.

I don't seem to have any audio recording software on my computer, I may be able to do something about that this week. It is largely a swipe of "Shout" except they have turned it into a dance song. Has nothing to do with the "Jump Up" of calypso style, it is very much a wild and over-the-top clone of "Shout" except shouting "Jump" and there is an aggressive sax with full band and some backup singers. The lead vocalist is gruff and not unlike some later dancehall artists who are also gravel-voiced. Side two is of special interest to those looking for the rare beat or break as the leader brings the instrumentals in bit by bit as some sixties dance hits were known to do. Overall it is up-tempo, brash and aggressive.

Never heard of the group or the label otherwise. The vocals make reference to coming up from North Carolina and being on the way to somewhere up north so this recording may be a legacy of their time in Norfolk albeit as passers-through.
