Description
This auction is for one of the most sought after LP's of the Psychedelic era: The original 1967 UK pressing of Kaleidoscope's "Tangerine Dream" LP (Fontana STL 5448). This is NOT a reprint or reissue! The reissue alone can go for hundreds of dollars and is fairly scarce itself, so you can imagine just how rare a 1st press original like this one is.
The condition of this LP is almost unheard of in the realm of record collecting. You simply will NOT find a better copy no matter how hard you look. If you have been searching for the best possible copy of this LP, look no further! This album represents one of the finest moments in British Psychedelia. Two of the songs from this album turned up on the "Nuggets II" box set which was designed to represent the very best in psychedelic music. Don't pass this album up if you are a serious collector of the genre, as you may never see it again in such great shape.

The Cover:
The front cover of the album has such a "new" appearance that you would think you are looking at something manufactured very recently. The album has retained its glossy sheen, and the colors remain deep and vibrant. On very close inspection the only minor flaws I can point out are some miniscule whitening on the lower, middle front that seems to be the very earliest signs of slight ringwear, a few very tiny white flecks, and a barely noticeable light crease in the upper left corner. There has been absolutely no fading from any light source, as this album has been kept in storage for over 4 decades.
The back cover shows some small dings around the border and a few minor scuffs probably from being stored overly tight . The section within the border has grown slightly off-white over time. There is a small circular sticker in the upper right corner which is most likely an easily removeable pricetag. Overall, the back cover isn't as impressive as the front, but it's still very nice for a 42 year old relic. Compare the pictures for a better idea of what I'm describing.

The Vinyl:
The original inner sleeve is included. It is no longer even close to being bright white if it originally was manufactured to be so. Like an old book where the pages become yellowed with time, it's hard to prevent material like this from gradually degrading. However, it is still completely intact, and lined with an inner polymer that i find keeps vinyl in much better shape than a simple paper sleeve.
The good news is that this polymer lined sleeve has kept this LP in absolutely immaculate condition. Even under bright light I see no signs of even light scratches. When scrutinizing every last inch of the vinyl it becomes clear that it was very rarely played, if at all. The polymer has even kept away those small hairlines or common sleeve scuffs that can be found from shuffling around in a paper sleeve.
The spindle hole is almost ridicuously tight, meaning that it hasn't really been put on a turntable very many times in its existence. You can be sure it will fit SNUGLY on yours.
The labels look completely new with no tears or scratches. The vinyl itself could probably be called NM. I don't see any reason why it wouldn't be. I can't say enough good things about the condition. Any collector would be proud to own a 42 year old gem like this that looks like it has barely been played. The winner of this auction will certainly feel grateful that Fontana Records opted for a poly-lined sleeve!

Overall, any collector of Psychedelic music, or just any rare record collector in general can't go wrong with this one. I've seen this record on previous auctions over the years go for upwards of $1,000. Don't pass this one up, as you may never see it in a condition even close to this over a life-time of searching. I won't be putting a reserve on this, so if you bid on this and no one happens to see it for 10 days, you could REALLY get away with a steal! Good luck, and may the best collector win!
