Kate Bush's first album, The Kick Inside, released when the singer/songwriter was only 19 years old (but featuring some songs written at 15 and recorded at 16), is her most unabashedly romantic, the sound of an impressionable and highly precocious teenager spreading her wings for the first time.
The centrepiece is "Wuthering Heights," which was a hit everywhere except the United States (and propelled the Emily Brontë novel back onto the best-seller lists in England), but there is a lot else here to enjoy: The disturbing "Man with the Child in His Eyes," the catchy rocker "James and the Cold Gun," and "Feel It," an early manifestation of Bush's explorations of sexual experience in song, which would culminate with "Hounds of Love."
As those familiar with the latter well know, she would do better work in the future, but this is still a mightily impressive debut.

LABELS: Clean, bright, fresh and unmarked labels with just a couple of light spindle traces - NEAR MINT
VINYL Visual: Both surfaces retain their original deep, glossy sheen and appear as-new - there is a little milky white mark on the run-in on Side One but this has no audio consequence - visually NEAR MINT
VINYL Audio: Deep, rich and strong audio reproduction on this first pressing (a very impressive EMI cut) with a crystal clear and detailed sound. On careful play at a loud volume it sounds sensational and there are no scratches, no sticks/jumps, no surface noise and just a couple of light clicks on the quiet lead-in to the first track (very minor and little anywhere else) - this is a really beautiful copy and in my experience surprisingly hard to find playing as well as this - critically graded as NEAR MINT for audio - gorgeous
SLEEVE: The original deeply laminated and deeply glossy sleeve has a glass-like finish to both the front and back and is clean, sharp and fresh with all spine text clear and bold again, NEAR MINT
