Description

Welcome! Here is a first UK press of Kevin Ayers Shooting at the Moon (Harvest SHSP 4005). This was the second Ayers album, officially credited to Kevin Ayers and the Whole World, which included David Bedford, Lol Coxhill, Mick Fincher, and Mike Oldfield. All the right stuff is here, kids – flipback sleeve, Harvest labels without the EMI logo, and the illustrated Harvest inner sleeve. And, everything is in top condition!

Matrix numbers and mother/stamper codes are:

Side 1: SHSP 4005 A-2G 1A.

Side 2: SHSP 4005 B-2G 1R.

Using the Record Collector grading system, what do we have here?

Sleeve: The laminated flipback sleeve grades Excellent. The sleeve is signed “Printed and made by Garrod & Lofthouse Ltd.” There are no outstanding flaws to the sleeve, just general, minor surface and corner wear. This includes minor laminate wrinkles and light soiling to the white reverse. There is typical dark toning to the edges of the flipbacks, but they are strong.

Vinyl: The nice, heavy Harvest vinyl grades Excellent+, almost M-, with just the occasional low-level crackle. It is really outstanding for a disc of this vintage.

Labels: Both labels are strong, with average spindle tracking on both labels. Again, these labels do NOT have the EMI logo (yay!), and DO have ‘Gramophone’ in the rim text (yay!).

Inner Sleeve: This album has its original plastic-lined Harvest inner sleeve, which is in nice shape, with no splits and only minor age discoloration. The only detraction is that some dummy wrote “SHSP 4005 2-50” in blue on one side!).

And, in the end: This is a terrific example of a pre-EMI “Shooting at the Moon.” Note that this album also exists with EMI labels in a non-flipback sleeve, and even that was deleted fairly early on by Harvest. But this one I am offering is the real deal; you will be pleased! Please e-mail me with any questions.

Returns: Full return privileges (less shipping and listing fee) if dissatisfied, but I bet you won’t be! Please pay by PayPal. Thanks and good luck!

About Me: I am not a dealer, but a longtime collector in the occasional process of dispersing my collection of English and German prog, rock, and blues albums. I have three other albums listed this week; check ‘em out!

Shipping: I will ship to ANY country on Earth! Pursuant to my statement above that I am not a dealer, I do NOT gouge anyone on shipping costs. If you are in the USA, figure on $4.00 for good ‘ol Media Mail; of course, you can do Priority, Overnight, you name it. In those situation, as well as if you live outside of the USA, I will take your item(s), with the packaging, to the post office and I will obtain multiple shipping quotes for you (fast, slow, whatever).

Insurance: I will also get an insurance quote for you. I pack things very well, but if you choose to not buy insurance, I will not be responsible if something nasty happens.

Namaste, everyone!
