Montreal's turntablist extraordinaire Kid Koala flipped the hip-hop album on its head with this 2000 debut-now reissued 25 years on by Ninja Tune. Composed entirely on vinyl and an eight-track tape recorder, it remains a wildly singular feat of sonic bricolage: surreal, soulful, and completely unclassifiable. 'Drunk Trumpet' turns warble and brass into lo-fi heartbreak; 'Scurvy' channels old cartoons through twisted fader moves; and 'Fender Bender' swerves between loungecore and scratch mayhem. It's funny, frantic, and fiercely musical, capturing the tactile joy of analogue DJing with obsessive detail. Koala's deep crate-digging, irreverent humour, and technical mastery make this a true cult artefact-playful yet painstakingly crafted. The bonus flexi disc, featuring 'Chaos At The Chicken Factory', only adds to the madcap appeal. Essential for fans of scratch culture and sample-heavy psychedelia.
