KING CRIMSON

IN THE COURT OF THE CRIMSON KING

A2/B3

ILPS 9111 PINK ISLAND

A reasonable copy of this classic.

The E.J Day sleeve is in fairly good condition. Firstly there are NO tears. The front of the cover still has a very strong image, no fading just a little light rubbing. The right hand edge is a bit rough but has no tears.Actually all edges have a fair bit of wear. The spine also has some wear, some of the text iseffected by this.

The back of the cover has some creasing, rubbing and some scratch marks.

The left hand side of the inner gatefold is in very good condition with just some minor rubbing at the top and a faint crease at the bottom. The text is still very clean and sharp.

The right hand side of the inner gatefold is in good condition with some light rubbing at the top and bottom and some light creasing throughout.

The majority of the rubbing and light creasing is only visible when held to a bright light apart from the back cover.

The matrix numbers are as follow

ILPS 9111 B//3   1 1    7

Vinyl appearance

The A side is still very shiny but has a fair few minor surface marks when held to a strong light. There are no major/deep scratches.

The B side is still very shiny but has a lightish scratch diagonally across 2/3 of the playing surface with a parallel light scratch about half the size this is not audible when played (see below). There are also a couple of light scuffs and some general light surface marks. This is all visible when held up to a strong light.

Vinyl sound - Played on a ION Profile LP USB turntable hooked up to PC.

Important note. The vinyl when first played was quite noisy. It looked ok but must have had some reside on it (bad storage conditions?). I have cleaned it a couple of times and sounds a lot better. It sounds best when played wet (with solution on vinyl). The problem I am having is the final cleaning. Once the solution has dried there is some background noise. I am not confident enough to continue cleaning the record in fear of damaging it.  THIS RECORD JUST NEEDS A PROPER CLEAN.

A side - The start of 21st Century Schitzoid Man is a bit clicky but stops immediately when the band kicks in.Some slight noise during the breaks. Talk to the Wind, couple of minor clicks. Epitaph, odd click here and there.

B side - Dispite the markings mentioned above it sounds great. The odd little tick here and there. The quiet parts are quite quiet and all instruments bright. As mentioned above when played wet it sounds really good.

After a proper clean I believe this will be a nice sounding copy. Please don't bid on this expecting to hear a crisp clean recording straight out ofthe sleeve. It will need a clean, I can't stress enough.

The lables are clean but do have quite a bit of spindle marks/wear.

The inner sleeve is not the original but still very good.

This album has obviously been played a lot and not particularly looked after that well but dispite all that it still has a lot more years of playing in it.
