KING CRIMSON In The Wake Of Poseidon (Island ILPS 9127) RARE UK 2nd Pressing Pink MINT-
RARE UK second pressing of King Crimson`s second album "In The Wake Of Poseidon", released on Island Records (May 1970). Still dating from 1970, this is a second pressing that retains the large pink "I" label, but in an untextured variation.
"For a long time I thought this was the worst rock band in history simply because it was the most pretentious, but sometimes pretensions are (at least partially) earned. Their second album is more muddled conceptually than In the Court of the Crimson King, quite a feat. But they're not afraid to be harsh, they command a range of styles, and their dynamics jolt rather than sledgehammer (properly electric, that). Also, they can play: kudos to drummer Michael Giles and guitarist Robert Fripp, who also illustrates the old adage, Better a Mellotron than real strings. C+" - Robert Christgau, date unknown.
GRADING:
EX(+) COVER. Original second-pressing textured gatefold sleeve with light general wear. Please see photos for details.
- Some rub-off to the texturing, especially along the bottom edge (front cover), as well as on the rear (at center, bottom).
- Moderate wear to album corners.
- Small 'nicked' area on spine (in "Poseidon").
MINT- RECORD that looks unplayed. Perfect audio reproduction throughout.
- The record has no visible signs of wear whatsoever.
- Original second-pressing, untextured pink Island Records labels with a single, very superficial spindle line (side one). Otherwise perfect.
- The matrix stamps in the run-off grooves read "ILPS 9127 A//1 1 4 " and "ILPS 9127 B//1 1", indicating a second UK pressing.
- This record is fully certified to be an original second UK pressing of "In The Wake Of Poseidon" from 1970.
PLEASE NOTE: Not to be compared with the more-often-than-not substandard vinyl on offer on eBay UK, this item is in honestly-graded EX(+) to MINT- condition. You will NOT find another original first pressing of "In The Wake Of Poseidon" as nice as this one - especially at this bargain price: "True value for money" is the motto here!
