I am parting with some of my treasured LPs. Here's a great record, maybe the most in your face of the 70's Crimson. SD7263 --After their first few LPs, Court of, Islands, Lizard, and In the wake of... Crimson turned a corner and produced 3 of the finest LP's in Prog rock. In a couple years they released RED, STARLESS, and LARKS TONGUES. The 3 LPs showed a paired down band with the core 3 ROBERT FRIPP, JOHN WETTON, and BILL BRUFORD. DAVID CROSS and JAMIE MUIR join them on this LP. It is a rollercoaster ride of ups and downs of music and emotions..
This is a beautiful 1973 pressing. The cover retains it's white color with a very slight discoloration towards the edges, mostly on the back cover. The spine has fraying, and the top seam on the left has a 2" split. The original inner is in great shape, and someone had written "46:42" on the back bottom of the inner. The labels look great, and the vinyl has a nice gloss to it. There are some fingerprints, mostly around the edges that do not affect play, and maybe a small hairline or 2, also that does not intrude on the sound. Overall play on this is extremely great. Because of so many quiet areas in Crimson LP's it's easy to hear the vinyl issues. This LP plays beautifully with amazing clarity and sound. There are a few moments where there is some background sounds, mostly on side 1, and understandable on this LP where the quiet areas magnify those issues. This was an LP that was played and enjoyed, but taken care of. The LP plays EX+, and sounds great.
I love original pressings because I feel every LP is of it's time and place. The vinyl, and record pressings are all from that moment in time, and no re-pressing or re-mastering will ever make the sound better for me. PLEASE CHECK OUT MY OTHER LPS FOR SALE NOW ON EBAY. SS = (STILL SEALED) The record itself is in brand new condition, assumed never to have been played.
M = (MINT) The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet,
booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.
M - = (MINT MINUS) MINT- is not MINT but is very close to it, near new, there might be a blemish or two, but overall record and jacket are like new or very close to new.
EX = (EXCELLENT) The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight
wear and / or creasing.
VG = (VERY GOOD) The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the
occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.
G = (GOOD) The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and
contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.
F = (FAIR) The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will
be torn, stained and / or defaced.
P = (POOR) The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.
B = (BAD) The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection filler
We also use + or - to adjust grades in between, so...this scopes out to: SS/M/M-/EX+/EX/EX-/VG+/VG/VG-/G+/G/F/P/B
