Lizard is very consciously jazz-oriented — the influence of Miles Davis (particularly Sketches of Spain) being especially prominent — and very progressive, even compared with the two preceding albums.
The pieces are longer and have extensive developmental sections, reminiscent of classical music, and the lyrics are more ornate, while the subject matter is more exotic and rarified.
The doom-laden mood of the first two albums is just as strong, except that the music is more serene.
Jon Anderson of Yes guests on one key number, "Prince Rupert Awakes" (which vocalist/bassist Gordon Haskell never completed), and the album is stronger for his presence.
At the time of its release, some critics praised Lizard for finally breaking with the formula and structure that shaped the two preceding albums, but overall it's an acquired taste but in my opinion, one of their finest.

LABELS: Clean, bright, fresh and unmarked labels with possibly only one of the lightest spindle traces evident - lprobably played (or part played) just the one time - MINT(-)
VINYL Visual: The thick, chunky vinyl is perfectly flat when revolving on the turntable and both sides are practically unmarked - in sunlight, only some light wispy hairlines are visible - the record shines like-new - MINT(-)
VINYL Audio: Stunning audio reproduction throughout - deep, rich, warm and incredibly strong. My one careful play-check at loud volume revealed no audio issues at all - no scratches, no loud clicks/pops and no surface noise. This is an exceptional clean pressing (all the quiet passages, including the gentle, delicate "Lady Of The Dancing Water" all play just about as silently as you could wish for) and original copies of this LP rarely (if ever) sound better than this. Critically and conservatively graded a very strong NEAR MINT for audio it's the best I've heard and, in my opinion, just about the closest to a perfect MINT you are ever likely to find
SLEEVE: The original gatefold sleeve (printed by EJ DAY with the spine text the right way up) is also in beautiful condition. The outer surfaces are deeply laminated and have a glass-like glossy sheen with no rubbing and no creases to the applied laminate. The inside is also beautifully clean and like new (to be very picky, there is a touch of light marking to the inside top edge (which looks like print transfer from the text 'LIZARD King Crimson' on the opposite side (please see close-up photos) but this is a very, very minor issue. The only 'wear' to the sleeve are small 'bumps' to the bottom corners otherwise, NEAR MINT
The original pale blue Island inner sleeve is also like-new and has clearly hardly ever been handled or even left the sleeve as it is completely unfaded - NEAR MINT
