Lizard is very consciously jazz-oriented — the influence of Miles Davis (particularly Sketches of Spain) being especially prominent — and very progressive, even compared with the two preceding albums.
The pieces are longer and have extensive developmental sections, reminiscent of classical music, and the lyrics are more ornate, while the subject matter is more exotic and rarified.
The doom-laden mood of the first two albums is just as strong, except that the music is more serene.
Jon Anderson of Yes guests on one key number, "Prince Rupert Awakes" (which vocalist/bassist Gordon Haskell never completed), and the album is stronger for his presence.
At the time of its release, some critics praised Lizard for finally breaking with the formula and structure that shaped the two preceding albums, but overall it's an acquired taste but in my opinion, one of their finest.

LABELS: NEAR MINT
Clean, bright, unmarked labels - less than a handful of light spindle traces - seen little use
VINYL Visual: NEAR MINT
Both surfaces shine like new with no marks to speak of
VINYL Audio: NEAR MINT
Stunning audio reproduction throughout - full, deep, rich and warm and my play-check at loud volume found nothing to fault.
This is an exceptional clean pressing (the quiet passages, including the gentle, delicate "Lady Of The Dancing Water" all play just about as silently as you could wish for) and original copies of this LP rarely sound better than this
SLEEVE: EXCELLENT++
The original gatefold sleeve (printed by EJ DAY with the spine text inverted on the wide spine) is also in beautiful condition.
The laminate has wrinkles from the manufacturing process (a common feature on these earliest pressed sleeves with the inverted text) but otherwise, little else to fault - crisp, sharp and unworn
INNER SLEEVE: EXCELLENT
The original pale blue Island inner sleeve has some age-related discolouration to the areas where the glue was used to fix the poly lining - nothing major - no seam splits
