Description
KING CRIMSON Lizard (Island ILPS 9141) RARE A2/B2 UK 1st Pressing Pink Rim MINT-
RARE very first UK pressing of King Crimson`s third album "Lizard", released on Island Records (December 1970).
Illustrious musicians on "Lizard" include Jon Anderson (vocals; from Yes), Keith Tippett (piano) and the Soft Machine horn section of Mark Charig and Nick Evans.
"To call this progressive rock is only to prove the term an oxymoron. But if you don't insist on snappy tunes with a good beat there are quite a few textural and technical attractions here, and the cold (not cool) jazziness of their compositions does project a certain cerebral majesty--third stream that deigns (rather than fails) to swing. Unfortunately, neither Gordon Haskell nor (keep off the weeds) Jon Anderson delivers Pete Sinfield's overwrought lyrics with the sarcasm they deserve. Grading: B-" - Robert Christgau, date unknown.
GRADING:
EX++ COVER. Original first-pressing laminated gatefold sleeve with only lightest wear. Please see photos for details.
- Very light rub-off to outer laminate, storage wear only.
- Near-perfect edges and spine, with one or two lightest creases.
EX++ RECORD that looks practically unplayed. Perfect audio reproduction throughout.
- Two or three very superficial hairlines from sleeve removal only.
- Faintest, very sporadic background crackle in a few quiet passages.
- Original first-pressing, untextured "pink rim" Island Records labels with a single, very superficial spindle line on each side.
- The matrix stamps in the run-off grooves read "ILPS 9141 A - 2 U" and "ILPS 9141 B - 2 U", indicating a very first UK pressing.
- Mothers/Stampers: "1 / G T" on Side One and "1 / R A" on Side Two.
- This record is fully certified to be an original UK first pressing of "Lizard", released in December 1970.
PLEASE NOTE: Not to be compared with the more-often-than-not substandard vinyl on offer on eBay UK, this item is in honestly-graded EX++ to MINT- condition. You will NOT find another original first pressing of "Lizard" as nice as this one - especially at this bargain price: "True value for money" is the motto here!
