Another from my personal collection. Earliest 1st UK pressing of the Kinks debut album "Kinks" released in 1964! The original mono audio is stunning clear and vibrant through out without any nasty constant loud clicks or pops and looks and sounds like in has had only very minimal play only in my opinion. (Listen for your self, to the complete album in the player below. Actual recording from the vinyl listed) I also play tested this on a top system at very loud volume, importantly using a dedicated mono cartridge. Any interference is very minimal with just light tick heard in isolated places only. Please note! This album is listed for its collectability rather than for its condition. There is light general storage wear with age. The original 1st UK issue Garrod & Lofthouse laminated front only flipbacked rear cover has light general wear /creases but is strong and straight. It is hard to believe that this album is over 50 years old like this! A real collectable and enjoyable copy, minimal play only becoming very hard to find like this!

Kinks is the self-titled debut album by English rock band The Kinks, released in 1964. It was released with three tracks omitted as You Really Got Me in the US.




The album was re-released in 1998 in the UK on Castle Records with twelve bonus tracks. This reissue was itself reissued in 2004 on the Sanctuary label. A deluxe edition was released on 28 March 2011.




The Kinks were an English rock band formed in Muswell Hill, North London, by brothers Ray and Dave Davies in 1964. The Kinks, who rose to fame during the mid-1960s and were part of the British Invasion of the USA, are recognised as one of the most important and influential rock groups of the era.




Their music was influenced by a wide range of genres, including rhythm and blues, British music hall, folk and country. Ray Davies (lead vocals, rhythm guitar) and Dave Davies (lead guitar, vocals) remained members throughout the group's 32-year run. Longest serving member Mick Avory (drums and percussion) was replaced by Bob Henrit formerly of Argent in 1984. Original bassist Pete Quaife was replaced by John Dalton in 1969 and Dalton was in turn replaced by Jim Rodford in 1978. Keyboardist Nicky Hopkins accompanied the band during studio sessions in the mid-1960s. In 1969 keyboardist John Gosling joined the band, making them an official five-piece, while Ian Gibbons replaced him in 1979, playing in the band until its eventual demise.




The Kinks first came to prominence in 1964 with their third single, "You Really Got Me", written by Ray Davies. It became an international hit, topping the charts in the United Kingdom and reaching the Top 10 in the United States. Between the mid-1960s and early 1970s, the group released a string of singles and LPs most of which were critically successful but commercial failures, and gained a reputation for songs and concept albums reflecting English culture and lifestyle, fuelled by Ray Davies' observational writing style. Albums such as Face to Face, Something Else, The Kinks Are the Village Green Preservation Society, Arthur, Lola Versus Powerman and the Moneygoround and Muswell Hillbillies, along with their accompanying singles, are considered among the most influential recordings of the period.




The Kinks' subsequent theatrical concept albums met with less success, but the band experienced a revival during the late 1970s and early 1980s with albums Sleepwalker, Misfits, Low Budget, Give the People What They Want and State of Confusion. In addition, groups such as Van Halen, the Jam, the Knack and the Pretenders covered their songs, helping to boost the Kinks' record sales. In the 1990s, Britpop acts such as Blur and Oasis cited the band as a major influence. The Kinks broke up in 1996, a result of the commercial failures of their last few albums and creative tension between the Davies brothers

The Vinyl

On initial visual inspection the vinyl is very clean and shiny retaining its original sheen from new. I can just see a few odd, very light surface scratches on the playing surface, fortunately these have very little if no effect on the audio and importantly there are no marks that would cause any loud constant clicks or pops during the play due to the fact that this vinyl features thicker vinyl with deep grooves only found like this on the earliest pressings.  Any other marks that could possibly be seen would be sleeve removal type only. This lays perfectly flat on the turntable and is free of any warping! This is the original thicker and deeper grooved type of vinyl only found on original early pressings later pressings were much more flimsier and less robust. . I can ( not) see any nasty needle scratches or marks that would effect the play that would cause any nasty constant clicks or pops! In my opinion this vinyl looks like it has had just very minimal play only and certainly not been overplayed at all.

The Audio Quality

I have played this vinyl as usual three time at very loud volume on a top system and importantly using a dedicated mono cartridge. The audio is awesome, cristal clear and vibrant all of the way through, Please note I heard (no) loud annoying constant clicks or pops during the play of this vinyl and also quite amaizing to find (no) background noise which is so common on these early 48 year old pressings even between tracks this was nice and quiet! I heard the odd light static typ tick or ticks in isolated places only but nothing too bad that would detract from the overall enjoyment in my opinion. This is so rare to find like this and in this condition. The audio on this very rare vinyl will be hard to surpass and I would grade this audio at excellent plus for the most part! There is (no) loud clicks pops certainly (no) jumps or skips or any signs of grooveware or that this vinyl has been overplayed at all! I would grade the audio at least excellent plus for the most part.

Please note! I always add this disclaimer! That I have given my honest opinion when describing the audio quality of this vinyl. and have played it through track for track. Although i never heard any major problems what so ever, Please allow for the odd static tick/ticks here and there (not) consistant through out the audio! Remember this is an original (not) a reissue that is 50 years old and would have been played on a system that is 50 years old! Please look at my completed listings of records that i have sold of this calaber and you will see that I normally get it right!

The Labels,

These are the original ''PIE" labels In absolutely superbe condition with (no) nasty names written on them. Amaizingly I find it hard to see and major spidering around the spindle hole perhapes a handful of light spidering only to be seen if looked for. In my opinion this has just had very minimal play only for a 50 year old original 60s record. (no) spindle ware the hole is perfectly round an excellent example rarely seen like this!

The record Sleeve.

This is plain white poly lined sleeve with (no) splits or tares just light general browning with age and light creasings but overall in super condition!

The cover

This is the 1st issue Garrod & Lofthouse printed Cover.  Clean and tidy with light general storage wear with age. The laminate is glossy in appearance. 

(No) edge splits or tares. There are light laminate creases on the front and minor half moon creases to mention.   Light ringwear rubbing only noticed when angled to the light.  The rear is exceptionaly clean with only the lightest of foxing/browning/yellowing spots with age only.  the writing can be clearly seen and fully legible! (see photos) I would grade this cover at excellent in my opinion.

In my opinion this very rare and sought after album will be hard to surpass and being the rarest in (mono) makes this album even more desirable 50 years old and still sounds fantastic!
