I first came across this treasure in the 1980's. I was distributing the various Armand Schaubroeck records through my store (although at the time, no one wanted them, but I was a huge fan). Greg of the Chesterfield Kings worked at the House of Guitars, which is a legendary guitar store owned by Armand and his brother, and he mentioned this record and one other from the 60's by Armand, calling his band Churchmice. I heard it and bought out the remaining stock, even though they all skipped. It's that brilliant. If you collect 60's garage and don't have this, your collection is simply not complete.
If you've never heard of Armand, he's well known in Rochester, NY for the crazy ads for his guitar store (which also had an incredible record selection). In his album, Ratfucker, along with his others, he sings a lot about his time in prison, guys hanging themselves, imprisonment for statutory rape, etc. In Lord My Cell Is Cold, well, the title says it all.
As far as the condition of the record, it looks perfect, but, as said above, the entire run skips. Your mileage may vary depending on how sensitive your turntable is. With most, it's just one or two small skips, and with a couple turntables, it didn't skip at all. Armand was well aware of the problem and on this copy, he autographed it with the note "This fuckin record skips." He wrote similar on all the ones I've seen, along with a little rubber stamp of a picture of himself.
Look this thing up on Youtube and listen to it. You'll love it. I think this is probably my last extra copy of this gem. Bid often, bid high!
For over 20 years, Venus Records was one of the top collector's stores in Greenwich Village, if not the world. I closed it down in 1999 and kept most of the stock in storage and have just recently started selling it off.
