With Love From A Madrigal Island

Kailua High School Madrigal Singers

Album was Made in Hawaii by Sounds of Hawaii Inc

LP Vinyl Record Album

Conductor – Shigeru Hotoke

The "Spirit of Aloha" which is our "way of life" in Hawaii bears no particular season.

Just as there are no distinctive seasonal changes in this blessed land of sunshine and tradewinds, our thoughts of Christmas of the wonderful spirit of sharing, of brotherhood of man, of peace on earth, goodwill to man, prevail throughout the year. It is with this in mind that one half of this record has been alloted to our Christmas favorites and the other half to madrigals and songs we found enjoyable.

The twenty-three youngsters who sing in this recording range in age-fourteen to seven-teen. About half of them are two year choristers and the others are first year members.

The soloists include Paula Wagner, Karen Stall, Glenn Crowder, David Stathapulo featured in the French madrigal "Revecy", Sarah Whedbee in the provocative "Jingle Bells Travelogue", Gerry Erwin, Jr. in "Amen" as interpreted by the composer during his visit in Hawaii, Iris Enoka in the beautiful and haunting "Kuu Ipo", and Suzie Carter and

Ronald Briggs in the Hawaiian version of "Deck the Halls". By request Shigeru Hotoke, director, sings "The Lord's Prayer". Accompanists are Yolanda Makini and Madeline Jones, a senior and sophomore, respectively.

A part of this group toured Southern California and sang in Pasadena, Long Beach, Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, and Disneyland. In addition, they were televised on an NBC network in a half hour production. They have given many concerts on Oahu and toured the neighborhood islands of Kauai, Molokai, Lanai, Hilo, and Kona, Hawaii. They were

met with enthusiastic response wherever they performed.

The increasing popularity of the choir and of the successful releases of three previous recordings prompted the production of this work.

The cover picture was taken by Gordon Morse, reporter-photographer of the Honolulu Advertiser at the Hawaii Sea Life Park through the courtesy of Tom Morrish, Executive Public Relations Officer.
