Description
The perfect gift for your naughty elf!
Up for bid is a rare (green) original vinyl LP of Kay Martin and Her Body Guards' classic 1962 holiday cheesecake album: "I know what he wants for Christmas ... but I don't know how to wrap it!" (FAXLP 1005)
I found this at an estate sale in a box of old records and was pleasantly surprised to find out it is highly collectible. (See http://christmasyuleblog.blogspot.com/2007/04/kay-martin-her-body-guards-i-know-what.html for more details.)
The cover overall is in very good to very good plus condition with bright colors. It has light ring wear and small seam splits (about 1") at the top and bottom. The vinyl and label are in very good condition. The vinyl does have some light surface scratches and a dark black dot in the non-recorded area near the label. The label itself is in very good condition with some light marks.
Please note: I have revised this listing since I originally posted it in order to provide more details as to condition of the vinyl and to lower the Buy It Now price. Before listing on Ebay, I had cleaned this record following instructions on various websites, then played it on an old turntable that I managed to get working (temporarily). The LP played nicely all the way through the first side with just some light crackle/popping (no skipping) that was only noticeable in the quiet areas of the record. I turned it over and played it all the way through the second side, and it sounded even better. It played without any skips and very little crackle until about the last 5 to 10 seconds of the record. Then it just kept repeating at that one spot and never finishing. If I put some weight on the arm so that the needle would press a little harder, it would play through that spot sometimes and not others. Then the turntable quit working on me, and I could do no further testing. (I know that sounds bogus, but it's the truth). Based on my research, I believe this record could be professionally cleaned/restored and it would play and sound great on good equipment. Because I don't have the resources to properly clean and test it, I can just confirm that it is (mostly) playable and sounds very good for its age. If you are not satisified with your purchase, you may return it within seven days, as I want my buyers to be happy!
