Description
King Crimson - Senabular (Vinyl, 1974, Live Bootleg) FLAT 8221
A bootleg recording of King Crimson, with the Fripp/Wetton/Bruford/Cross lineup.
As is common with bootlegs, the packaging is minimal. A plain white jacket with an insert, a plain white inner sleeve, and labels that say nothing more than "SIDE ONE" and "SIDE TWO,"
The insert says 1974 and "Arlingon, Texas." Both of these can't be true . . . KC played at UT-Arlington in October of 1973, and played in Fort Worth in 1974. There was no Arlington show in 1974, and the consensus is that this record came from the October 1973 show at UT-Arlington.
The insert also has the songs incorrect/incomplete. The record contains --
Side 1 Larks' Tongues In Aspic, Part I Easy Money
Side 2 Book Of Saturday Lament Improv/Exiles
One thing this record has that's somewhat unusual to hear is Robert Fripp with some between song banter with the crowd. It doesn't do anything to dispel Fripp's prickly image, but it's cool to hear, as it's not often heard on record.
For a bootleg, the sound is decent. The bass is lacking, which is very common with bootlegs. There are some crackles -- one rough spot of short duration at the beginning of Side 1. The jacket and insert are in excellent shape -- a little corner wear. The plain white inner sleeve has the usual creases and has yellowed some with age.
Re pricing. I saw this record changed hands at $66 for a sealed copy. I am about 99% sure that the record was opened and re-sealed -- you buy bootlegs to listen to them, not to file them away. Anyway I don't see this record as in that price range, even in as good condition as it is (it's been played maybe three times).
