Description
KING OLIVER AND HIS DIXIE SYNCOPATORS: Vocalion 1014. Deep Henderson/Jackass Blues. Visual grade E- in standard N-E-V-G-F-P system. Sweet copy and plays as well as E or better. Recorded 4/21/26 in Chicago. Shoffner, Oliver, Ory, Bigard, Nicholas, Russell, Scott, etc. Great band! You know this. No physical record problems. I'll tell ya' if there was. A small green written number "15" in small green circle in the middle on the left side of label on #1. 3/4" square? No effect on label print. Don't know what it means. Did somebody pay 15 cents many years ago for this copy? E- means half grade or less to E. Frankly only few scratches and none serious. Some might say V+ but there is a difference. Plays strong, too. No photos because in the case of 78s, one picture ain't worth a thousand words. All 78s look E. Money refunded for any reason, including shipping. Why pay $200 for an E or E+ copy if you can find it. This will look and play fine.
Heard Oliver's "Sweet Like This" a couple of weeks ago by the Prohibition Jazz Orchestra of Chicago. The horn guy needs to listen to the original copy to know why he should have used a mute. I'll bring a tape of it next month when they play. Still knocked me out. They also need to study tempos. Sheet music often gives no clue, compared to original recordings. Blah, blah, blah.
