Joanna Storm & her Red Wave promotion team jumped into the Russian music scene with vigor shortly after the fall of the Soviet Union- signing a handful of bands and musicians influenced by the Western music scene- music often smuggled into the country or heard over stations like Radio Free Europe for the last few decades. Kino was one of those bands- very popular in the old Soviet Union; hoping to make it big in the West. Their style of punk/new wave/coldwave had all the makings of greatness. Unfoirtunately, the West pretty much turned a deaf ear to most of this music- they simply were not ready...or very interested in the Russian language/theatrical-based music played by these musicians...and after a couple of years, Red Wade folded. In any case- this is a document of some of that scene- excellent new/cold-wave music with just enough of a bent oddness to make it unique.
