ITEM DESCRIPTION:
This quite rare LP from French Columbia (FCX 589, French pressing, blue/silver label, mono – no stereo edition exists) features Leonid Kogan's radiantly pure accounts of Mozart's Violin Concertos No. 3 in G Major K. 216 and No. 5 in Major K. 219 "Turkish".
The exact discographic details are as follows:
Mozart: Violin Concerto No. 3 in D Major K. 216, with Otto Ackermann conducting the Philharmonia Orchestra

Note: Kogan plays his compatriot David Oistrakh's cadenzas

These performances were not simultaneously taped in stereo. However, so fine is EMI's engineering that one hardly registers the difference. It's remarkable to think in what short span of time Kogan, Oistrakh, Rostropovich, Richter, and Gilels set down for Columbia / EMI such unforgettable performances, recordings that remain discographic landmarks more than a half century on.
There are few more beautiful Mozart Violin Concerti records than this, with the intense communicativeness of Kogan's unmistakable timbre both breathtaking and unforgettable.
CONDITION:
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the jacket is VERY GOOD. There is slight bumping/wear at corners, minor ringwear and creasing, and some discoloration. However, there are no bends, seamsplits, or owners' markings, and the album remains extremely solid, bright, and glossy, the laminate finish very much intact – overall, a handsome collector's copy.
The condition of the LP itself is EXCELLENT. Although the surfaces are not CD silent, in general the playback is excellent. If you need a flawless or near-MINT copy, then please do not buy this LP. Overall, this is an excellent collector's copy.
