ITEM DESCRIPTION:
This handsome LP MK · Mezhdurodnaya Kniga (D 044220-04423(a), thick Soviet pressing, pink/black MK label, mono – no stereo edition exists) features the great Leonid Kogan in an awe-inspiring rendition of Beethoven's Violin Concerto in D Major Op. 61, made in Moscow in 1958 with Kirill Kondrashin and the USSR State Symphony Orchestra. There are at least five other extant versions of Kogan in this work, but this early Soviet account boasts a frisson and sense of occasion setting it apart from his later accounts. Kogan plays Joachim's cadenzas.
Incidentally, the uncreditd liner notes on the reverse side of the jacket are provided in both Russian and English.
CONDITION:
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the jacket is EXCELLENT. There is a small bit of writing to the front panel, as well as minor bumping/wear at corners and mild discoloration, but that is all. There are no seamsplits, bends, or owners' markings and the whole remains extremely solid, bright, and attractive – overall, an excellent collector's copy.
The condition of the LP itself is EXCELLENT++. Although the surfaces are not CD silent, in general the playback is superb. Only those requiring a flawless or near-MINT copy need hesitate. Overall, this rates as an excellent collector's copy.
