Description

Kokomo Arnold  (A) "Red Beans & Rice" (B) "Mean Old Twister" 78 RPM  Decca   7347    V+ Condition
A. Side "Red Beans & Rice" Plays E- loud & clear no skips, pops or ticks - Slight Decca hiss - common on these. B. Side "Mean Old Twister" Plays E- loud & clear no skips, pops or ticks - Slight Decca hiss - common on these.  Solid record with just a few light scuffs on both sides. Excellent Labels and lots of shine.
I am giving this a V+ grade for two reasons.  Side A has a small 1/4" hairline lam crack. Does not go through to B side. The edge right there has a tiny little bit of tape residue where a piece of scotch tape was. This side also has some odd pressing indention - hard to see without turning in the light - Plays great but I want to be conservative. Side B has a tiny pressing bump on the first two grooves - from the factory. Its impossible to photograph and almost impossible to see. I usually keep my tonearm at 2 grams. To keep this from bumping (sometimes jumping the first groove) I have to put about 3.5 to 4 grams on the tone arm then its inaudible and causes no issues. Again I want to be as exact as I can.

Kokomo Arnold in his raw, classic Delta style bottleneck. Both sides are just SUPER songs. These clean Kokomo Deccas have been really going up in the last few years.

****See Link to external video at bottom of listing - both sides played through in their entirety**** Simple Galaxy Phone on a stand - simple no EQ at all - You get to hear and see both sides played.
I am a long time and established 78 collector. These records are from my personal collection - see my other listings for great 78s. Some of these records come from the most established collectors in the field. I need to finance a special trip so I had to decide on some 78s to part with. This week will also Be listed a SUPER CONDITION Tommy Johnson "Canned Heat Blues", a RARE Paramount Charley Patton "RattleSnake Blues", some great Vocalions including a Furry Lewis "Big Chief Blues",  and others - check back they will start on Wed night.
I carefully inspect each record visually and play - Staton 500 with 3.5 mil Eliptical stylus. Played on Dynaco Tube Amp and preamp. Bass and Treble set at middle. Played in mono on Rek-o-Kut Model CVS.
Payment should be via PayPal, and must be completed within FIVE days. Shipping will be by USPS Media Mailing.   All of my packaging of fragile 78's is done safely by sandwiching the records between sturdy Cardboard (2 layers per side) and surrounding it with padding before placing it in a Cardboard box surrounded by packing peanuts, and the Box is Stamped FRAGILE.     ****Higher priced items over $500.00 will be double boxed and will require insurance and additional shipping charges. ****Please wait for my invoice before payment.  ****If you do not want insurance on a record shipment you must expressly communicate this to me and take all risks for breakage or damage in shipping. Overseas bidders are welcome, but should be aware of the possibility that, if winnings are of one or two records of minimal value, the cost of mailing could exceed the value of the records. The cost of sending a single 78 rpm record could be $20.00 or more -  In any case, winners will be expected to pay promptly. I will not accede to requests to hold records to be combined with future purchases, unless bids are pending on items currently running. Payment by PayPal is required. There is the possibility that parcels may be detained in customs, and subjected to inspection and assessment of duties; these are risks assumed by buyers. I use sturdy cardboard boxes (for 45s and LPs, as well as 78s, where appropriate),and will not use lesser, inadequate packing in order to reduce postage. I have had no losses, but to the extent insurance is unavailable (as with First Class Mail International) or not elected (value for customs and insurance must be the same), risk of loss is buyer's.
I have set a very reasonable opening minimum and No Reserve and will let it go from there. Best of Luck on your bidding.  PLEASE ask questions if you have any before bidding.
78 Record Grading: Accurately grading 78 records can be difficult to a certain degree. The VJM 78 Grading System in my opinion is the most accurate grading system. I am very conservative in the grading - providing full photos of both sides, close up of labels.
The VJM 78 Grading System Is As Follows N As new and unplayed (there are virtually no 78s that can categorically be claimed to be unplayed). N? Nearly Mint, but has been played. No visible signs of wear or damage. E+ Plays like new, with very, very few signs of handling, such as tiny scuffs from being slipped in and out of jackets. E Still very shiny, near new looking, with no visible signs of wear, but a few inaudible scuffs and scratches. E- Still shiny but without the lustre of a new record, few light scratches. V+ is an average condition 78 in which scuffs and general use has dulled the finish somewhat. Wear is moderate but playing is generally free from distortion. Surface noise not overly pronounced. V Moderate, even wear throughout, but still very playable. Surface noise and scratches audible but not intrusive. V- Quite playable still, but distortion and possible heavy greying in loud passages. Music remains loud in most passages. Surface noise and scratches well below music level. G+ Grey throughout but still serviceable. Music begins to sound muffled. Heavy scratches. Music level higher than surface noise. G Quite seriously worn and scratched, but music level is still slightly higher than surface noise. F Most of music remains audible over surface noise, but listening now uncomfortable. Filler copy or wall hanger.
