L. Voag "The Way Out" LP privately issued by Amos (No. 9) in the UK, 1980. Original sleeve with attached fold-out poster. ****** Rec:ex Cov:ex ****** L Voag was the bass player of experimental-punk-diy group The Homosexuals. After leaving the band in 1979, he privately released this LP titled "The Way Out" recorded in the downtime between Homosexuals recording sessions. This was the first of a slew of solo and collaborative releases of his own under several pseudonyms (including Amos, Xentos Jones, Narki Brillians, Vic Serf), all released between 1979 and 1984 on his It’s War Boys label. Playing almost all of the instruments himself, "The Way Out" featured several acoustic and electronic instruments, as well as various sampled sounds, humming and buzzing. Some of it reminds me personally of Faust, I'd say it's sublime and a must-hear for fans of experimental / dream music. An amazing album that swings from branch to branch in a matter of seconds; bedroom psych, sound collage, and avant noise. A genuinely strange and idiosyncratic masterpiece reclusive and light-sensitive L Voag. In the guise of 'very open' and stretched pop songs, experiments stream out at 'a lot' per minute. A melange of snappy tunes, highly unobvious arrangements, left handed humour, sound research, super radical mixing and one off words and singing style. The first side comes off as a strange comedy record. L Voag and company take a stab at playing ska, beat jazz, surf, tv adverts, and doing a very bad job at it. The second side comes off as an even stranger comedy record. A very rare record, privately issued and including the poster in perfect conditions as well.
