Description
THIS IS THE 1990 UK/EU ORIGINAL PRESSING on ALTERNATIVE TENTACLES Records. SINGLE COVER + LARD ILLUSTRATED MAGAZINE + COMPANY INSERT. The cover is in VG+ condition, normal wear but light discolouration/wear on spines/corners, mild creases on edges/corners, surface sticker on front (top left), left spine is fully readable; for details see photos. The vinyl is in EX condition (barely played) and plays wonderfully.

LARD
Lard is one of several sometime-side projects helmed by the Ministry duo of Al Jourgensen (guitar) and Paul Barker (bass) -- in this case, notably fronted by legendary Dead Kennedys singer Jello Biafra, along with, initially, drummer Jeff Ward. Founded in 1988, Lard was first brought to the public's attention via the following year's The Power of Lard EP, and even more so by 1990's inaugural full-length The Last Temptation of Reid. Both featured a unique blend of industrial and punk, matched with Biafra's typically political lyrics; but the band's already sporadic touring and recording schedule (this was, after all, a side project) was curtailed even further after the shocking suicide of drummer Ward in 1993. Lard wasn't heard from again until 1997's critically acclaimed Pure Chewing Satisfaction LP, and then again in 2000, via the '70s Rock Must Die EP -- both recorded with Ministry mainstay Bill Rieflin on drums. Jourgensen has since stated that Lard still has one final album in them, but just when this will be recorded, and whether Barker will be involved following his 2004 exit from Ministry, remains to be seen.

On paper, the collaboration between Jello Biafra and Ministry seems like a match made in industrial punk heaven, and thankfully the first release from Lard lives up to these expectations. Both parties seemed to have taught the other side a thing or two: Jello Biafra is more focused than usual, while Alain Jourgensen and Paul Barker from Ministry sound a lot more punky and loose. The percussion, courtesy of Bill Rieflin and the late Jeff Ward, is firmly in an industrial style, though -- all mechanized metallic thrashing, but it works just fine with the material. The standout track is "Forkboy," the album's opener, a frantic guitar workout with Biafra's righteous anger coming through loud and clear. The rest of the album isn't quite as strong, but it's still better than anything Biafra and Ministry have done in later years...(AllMusic)
