This record is an original pressing from the personal collection of legendary Detroit recording engineer, Ed Wolfrum. (see short bio below ***)
LARRY WRIGHT "Sweet,Sweet,Kisses"/"It's Okay With Me" on A-Go-Go AG-345 with ZTSC121125/121126 inscribed in the deadwax on either side respectively. Both sides of this record are in a stunning 'visual' and 'play' condition at VG++, hard grade to achieve for styrene.
Ed tracked this session at United Sound probably somewhere around 1967 from the sound of it. Ed remembers George McGregor on drums, a core component of the Golden World rhythm section from 1964 onward and easy to spot from his pick up. "Sweet, Sweet, Kisses" is a pounding Myto pub. meets Mike Terry meets Richard Wylie meets Tony Hester Detroit Soul Masterpiece. The flip, "It's Okay With Me," is equally powerful in a more downtempo orchestral groove.*************************************************
ED WOLFRUM
This is one of a set of 13 deep Detroit records currently listed up on ebay from the collection of Dr. Edward J. Wolfrum. An engineer who worked consecutively at Motown, Golden World, United Sound, and Theme Productions in the 60's, and his own Audio Graphic Services studios since the early 70's, Edward Wolfrum is an engineer with deep roots into the Detroit recording scene. Wolfrum worked on such disparate records as Funkadelic's first three LPs, the Tomangoes "I Really Love You," the Association's "Along Came Mary," to a large share of Marvin Gaye's Output. Today Wolfrum performs mostly binaural mannequin head recordings of classical/orchestral music, most notably recent recordings in Detroit of the works of 50s/60s DSO conductor, Paul Paray. Wolfrum worked within the close knit family of recording engineers, producers, label owners, and musicians that existed in a time when immense technical and artistic talent filled the city of Detroit. Wolfrum worked most closely with his good friend Russ Terrana and coworkers at United Sound like Danny Dallas and Les Cooley. Responsible for countless huge orchestral records, echo laden drum breaks, and pounding Detroit Soul workouts, Ed Wolfrum looms large in the magic of the Detroit Sound.
